We've made trips specifically to visit some and others have been happy accidents along the way. Whether it has a nautical, tropical, or adventure vibe, we'll happily drop in for a drink or three.
We both stopped into this epic Chicago spot a week or two apart from each other but are looking forward to making it back together at some point. Jen’s favorite was the Aloha Felicia.
We spent Jen’s 49th Birthday at a fantastic rental just off of Bourbon Street and did brunch one day at Latitude 29. It definitely ranks up there in the top 3 favorites for drinks, food, and atmosphere.
When we went to Las Vegas we had intended on stopping into Frankies and Golden Tiki. After a few too many dollar bills were mysteriously lost elsewhere, we were going to save that adventure for another trip until we happened to end up down the street from this Pup-themed bar. The drinks were amazing, the decor was a treat, and the vibe was hip.
The bar that started it all. Many years ago, when we were just besties, our friend group descended upon the Grog Grotto for what ended up being 7 hours of drinks, snacks, stories, and laughter. We try to make it back there on the rare visits to Disney.
Shane got the chance to head to this Phoenix spot while on a work trip and absolutely loved the drinks and the decor. It's like you are sitting on the inside of a ship with sea life flowing by in the porthole windows. The bartenders were fantastic at helping you pick exactly what you needed to wet your whistle.
We stopped into Dukes on a hot Georgia afternoon and had a wonderful collection of drinks and tropical snacks. Sadly, our most recent trip was a disappointment as it's now just a generic bar with a tropical theme.
This bar in New York is sadly now closed but their literal fishbowl was a treat.
On a recent trip to Amsterdam to celebrate the graduation of Jen's oldest, Belly of the Beast was a must-visit, and it didn't disappoint. This bar has a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea vibe and some amazing cocktails to go with it.
While on a visit back to California, Jen took her parents into this Sacramento spot for their first tiki experience.
Shane had the opportunity to stop in while on a trip to Chicago and has raved about everything he remembers of his time there. He doesn't remember getting back to his hotel very well though.
We love this little spot in Savannah with its fantastic drinks and delicious snacks. It has that old-school tropical vibe in an intimate setting.
It's a hidden spot in Decatur with only a few seats but a fantastic atmosphere. The frozen painkiller wasn't our favorite, but we enjoyed the rest of our drinks.
Atlanta hasn't been great to tropical bars despite the growing support of home bar owners and general enthusiasts. This bar has gone the way of the dodo bird.
Jock’s falls more in to the adventure bar category but used to have mugs to accompany the Indiana Jones-inspired drinks. Go figure that Indiana Jen would appreciate this Disney Springs spot.
After a disappointing and short trip to Duke's. Shane found this spot walking distance from the Atlanta Beltline. They are described as "taking inspiration from celebrations of life, the ancestors, and the afterlife found in holidays like Día de los Muertos and All Souls Day" and have a variety of tequila-based drinks along with some quality rums. Shane was more than pleased with their Mai Tai, too.
